Ingrown hairs are the most unwanted thing which comes after shaving. They are not only painful and irritating but also give pimple-like bumps on face, neck, legs or armpits. Prevent ingrown hairs by following proper shaving technique and maintenance of skin.

Shaving Technique:

Blade:

·         The razor blade should be sharp. Discard old and rusted razors.

·         Change blade regularly to make sure it is sharp and quick at work

·         Dry the blade after use

Shaving:

·         Shave in the direction of hair growth. If you shave against the hair growth, the sharp end of hairs may penetrate the skin resulting in pain and itching.

·         Rinse the blade after each stroke while shaving. Try to shave in least number of strokes possible.

·         Wet your face before shaving and apply shaving gel. Application of shaving gel softens the thick and dry hairs. This helps in easy shaving. Consider application of a moisturizer after shaving to soothe the inflamed skin and hence razor bump treatment for hair. You can also use a wet cloth and tap skin to sooth.

·         Reduce frequency of shaving for razor bump treatment, as continuous touch of blade may exaggerate pain and inflammation of the affected area.

Exfoliating agents:

·         Consider using a scrub or an exfoliating agent before shave for razor bump treatment. The dead skin cells while shaving allows penetration of hairs resulting in hair bump.

·         Exfoliation can be done by both physical and chemical methods

·         Physical method involves use of scrub or exfoliating agents

·         Chemical method involves use of alpha-hydroxy acids or salicylic acid

·         It is advisable to use moisturizer after exfoliating agent

Other methods to prevent ingrown hair:
